Round Rock, Texas-based Dell, one of the world's leading vendors of computer systems, has recently announced the expansion of its line of Latitude laptops, with the introduction of the new 12.1-inch rugged convertible tablet, featuring multi-touch capabilities, the Latitude XT2 XFR. The new system has been designed to meet the requirements of users working in extreme environments, where laptops have to withstand extreme temperatures and harsh handling.

“The Latitude XT2 XFR is more than a laptop, it's a key part of our mobile command and data-center solutions for field service, defense and first-responder customers,” said Paul Bell, president, Dell Global Public-Sector Business. “These unique solutions, coupled with our service model, make those communities more effective, enabling them to focus on their core missions instead of managing technology.”

The new laptop has been designed with a 12.1-inch touchscreen display and can support a maximum resolution of 1280 by 800 pixels. Inside the system's configuration you will find a 1.6GHz Core 2 Duo ULV SU9600 processor, coupled with up to 5GB of RAM, a 160GB HDD and the Intel 4500MHD integrated graphics solution. The Latitude's storage solution can also be replaced with a choice for a 64 or 128GB SSD, while additional features include an 8x DVD writer, a multi-gesture touchpad, Gigabit Ethernet and WiFi, as well as a necessary Bluetooth option. The XT2 XFR also ships with a built-in fingerprint reader, a Smart Card reader, a 3MP webcam and a design that is shock, dust and moisture resistant.

Available with a choice for a 4-, 6-, or 9-cell battery pack, the new Dell Latitude XT2 XFR will run either on Microsoft's Windows Vista or Windows 7 operating systems. Backed by a three-year warranty, the system will be available with a starting price tag of US$3,599 and can already be configured and purchased from Dell.
