Dell's precision M4500 mobile workstation has been known to be in existence for quite a while now, mostly because Dell did its best to emphasize the new performance heights achievable by it. Now, some weeks after it was revealed, the workstation seems to have finally finished gearing up, as it has now been listed on Dell's website. Predictably, the laptop is incapable of feeling mercy for consumer wallets, credit cards or whatever other means of fund transfers exist, even while it comes in configurations that may leave customers wanting more.

As Dell has promised, the mobile PC is highly customizable, with performance specs and the feature set being able to reach quite high standards, as long as suitably unlimited funds are present. Still, when looking at the lowest priced configuration, one cannot help but notice some things missing or being incomplete.

For instance, the $1,549 configuration, while apparently accessible, price-wise, compared to other workstations, only has 2GB DDR3-1066MHz memory, a liquid crystal display with a resolution of 1,366 x 768 and an Intel Core i5-520M 2.5GHz CPU. The laptop manages to, at least, include the NVIDIA Quadro FX 880M Graphics adapter, but might put off some users through its lack of WiFi. Of course, consumers can always choose higher, and, thus, more expensive options.

For consumers that don't mind spending $2,500 or more on a workstation, Dell offers quite a number of tempting components, such as a 64GB SSD minicard, the significantly more powerful NVIDIA Quadro FX 1800M Graphics with 1GB dedicated memory, a Full-HD LCD with a 1,920 x 1,080-pixel resolution and others. Customers may also choose the option of a backlit keyboard, though they may also wonder why it is not included by default.

"The Dell Precision M4500 establishes new heights for performance and mobility for a workstation," Greg Weir, senior manager, Dell Precision workstations, said when the product was previewed in early March. "This system provides the freedom to discover, create and imagine on your terms, wherever creativity takes you. Top that off with the assurance that you are backed by our robust 'eco system' of partner certifications and our ability to deliver the application performance you need to be productive...now that's getting it done!"

End-users may see the device in detail at Dell's online store.
