Dell doesn't really put much stock on affordability when it comes to its Alienware laptop line, since it focuses on performance and aesthetics, and this has again been confirmed now that an 18-inch model has shown itself.

Top-tier makers of personal computers have at least one series of PCs aimed at the enthusiast and gaming market.

While affordability and energy efficiency are prime requisites for mainstream and low-end units, high-end customers have this as a distant second concern.

As far as notebooks go, Dell has the world-renowned Alienware collection, series that now got a fairly large new member.

Essentially, Dell listed, in Canada at least, the Alienware M18x, which should start shipping sometime during May, 2011, next month as it were.

That said, its hardware definitely did not skip over anything, revolving around an Intel Core i7 central processing unit with a clock speed of 2.8 GHz.

Said CPU is paired with the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M discrete graphics card and backed up by 4 GB of DDR3 RAM (random access memory).

Meanwhile, the 18.4-inch display has, predictably, support for the Full HD resolutions (1,920 x 1,080 pixels).

The starting price of this machine is a bit above 2,000 CAD, but people with really expansive coffers can go quite a bit higher than the parts listed above.

The CPU can be of as much as 3.4 GHz and the RAM of 8GB, while graphics can be provided by two Radeon HD 6970M boards in CrossFire X. Finally, up to 750 GB of HDD storage are available (the base configuration above settles for 320 GB).

The listing can be found here, although the photo looks more like an M17x than anything else. It looks like the page might just not be completed yet, although pre-orders can be placed already. The M14x should be up on the site as well.
