Like most respectable device manufacturers, Dell is also present at CES 2015 in Las Vegas this week. And the company has taken the opportunity to roll out a refresh of its popular XPS 13 Ultrabook.

Compared to the 2013 model, the newcomer is, of course, lighter (has 2.6 lbs / 1.17 kg) and skinnier (0.6 inch / 15 mm profile) compared to the predecessor’s 3 lbs / 1.3 kg and 0.7 inch / 18 mm profile.

Dell adds Intel's 5th-gen platform to its Ultrabook

Broadwell seems to be the platform du-jour at CES 2015, so the new Dell Ultrabook takes advantage of his architecture as well.

Dell says that the thin and light profile, high resolution display and long battery life make the 13-inch notebook feel more like you’re handling an 11-inch sized model instead.

The notebook arrives with a 13.3-inch display with a very thin bezel, which Dell poetically calls “borderless infinity display” and a choice in the resolution department between 1920 x 1080 pixels and 3200 x 1800 pixels.

Both models boast IPS screens with 170-degree viewing angles and 400-nit brightness. Dell is offering a choice in terms of processor power too and you’ll be able to pick up your laptop with Intel Core i3, Core i5 or Core i7 Broadwell chips under the hood, fitted with 4GB / 8GB of RAM and 128GB / 512GB of solid state storage.

The battery inside the new Ultabook is of the 52 Whr variety and Dell says it’s good enough to support a 15-hour life cycle on board.

If that’s not enough for you, there’s also the choice of using Dell’s special Power Companion which bestows an additional 8 hours of run time.

The spec list is completed with 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, two USB 3.0 ports, mini DisplayPort, SD card reader and a backlit keyboard.

Interested customers can pick up the Dell XPS 13 starting this week for $800 / €673 and up.
