Computer maker Dell is gearing up for the release of a new software update for its first Windows Phone-based handset, the Venue Pro, in an attempt to fix some of the issues that affected the handset.

The company promised this update a few months ago, when Microsoft was gearing up for the release of its NoDo update, and is now getting ready to have it available for devices in a matter of weeks.

“The new firmware will be rolled out to customers with unlocked phones globally and to T-Mobile customers in the US around the middle of next month,” a recent post on the company's blog reads.

“This will be via the Zune update process. Beginning this week, customers who order the unlocked version of the Dell Venue Pro will receive the phone with version 2.12 of the firmware installed.”

Some of the main issues the new software update is set to fix are related to Wi-Fi and lockup, the said blog post continues.

According to the company, since both the Wi-Fi and the user memory storage use the same DMA channel, which results in lockups at times when something is being downloaded over WiFi while the handset is trying to write on the user memory storage location.

The company has been hard at work with the development of a firmware flavor that would solve the issue for all users, and it seems that they finally managed to find the right answer to this.

“Over the past months, we had released previous firmware revisions like 2.06 and 2.10. The reality was that those interim firmware updates solved issues for some customers, but it did not solve all of them,” the said blog post reads.

“Testing-wise, we’ve been working with Microsoft, the carriers and even a few beta test customers [...]. Based on those tests, things are looking pretty good. Thanks to those of you who served as beta testers [...] and to all of you who have been waiting for this update.”

Users who would like to receive the new software update will have to have NoDo installed on their handsets, as well as the security update that Microsoft started to deliver to Windows Phone users in May.

Additional info on the software update, as well as on the updating process, should become available as the release date approaches.
