Dell’s tablet is bumped to the current software standard

A few days ago, we were telling you that albeit postponing the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for its Venue 8 7840 tablet three times, Dell still maintained it would provide the new build “soon” enough.

And today, quite unexpectedly, Dell started pushing out Android 5.0.2 Lollipop for the tablet in question (as seen at the Android Police).

As with the KitKat version before it, Lollipop on the Venue 8 seems to look very stock-like. The update also enables encryption default, a feature that has been causing some drops in performance for some models. But it remains to be seen if this is the case for the Venue 8 too.

For those who haven’t had the chance to purchase Dell’s latest Android tablet, this might be a good time to do so given that the new software update is rolling out.

In which case we’re taking the opportunity to remind you that the Venue 8 7840 tablet arrives with a 8.4-inch display with 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution (359 ppi) and draws life from a quad-core Intel Atom Z3580 chipset fitted with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage (microSD is available).

The tablet sells for around $400 / €359 and is one of the best Android tablets Dell has produced so far.
