Dell is expanding its Venue Android tablet lineup

Back in July Dell refreshed its line of Android tablets by adding new Venue 7 and Venue 8 models that took advantage of an Intel Merrifield processor.

The tablets came boasting 7-inch and 8-inch form factors, but if your heart lies with larger-screened slates, you should be glad to know Dell is planning to launch an Android tablet from the Venue lineup with a 10-inch display.

Dell Venue 10 will arrive soon

The guys at TechTastic dug up a Dell Venue 10 listing in the lofty database of GFXBench, which indicates the tablet should arrive in the wild soon enough (but we don’t know exactly when, yet).

The 10-incher takes advantage of FHD resolution (1920 x 1200 pixels) like its smaller brothers do. Under the hood lies a 22nm quad-core Intel Atom SoC (Z3735F) clocked at 1.8GHz combined with Intel HD Graphics GPU.

The processor onboard is supported by 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, out of which you have approximately 24GB left to fill with your own apps and games.

In the photo department, the Venue 10 comes equipped with a 5MP camera on the back supporting HDR, face detection, auto focus and 1080 video recording. Up front you’ll find a 1.2MP sensor.

Moving along, all the other features you’d expect to find on a tablet are also available with the Venue 10, meaning Bluetooth, NFC and Wi-Fi.

According to the benchmark listing, the tablet will arrive in the wild running Windows 4.4.4 KitKat. That’s a little bit disappointing.

At this time it appears the Nexus 7, Nexus 9, Nexus 10 and NVIDIA Shield Tablets are the only tablets available taking advantage of Android Lollipop (the Nexus tablets can be updated to 5.1).

The Dell Venue 10 has slighter better specs than the Venue 8

Compared to the smaller models in the family, the Venue 10 offers more in terms of RAM (the 7-incher and 8-incher were equipped only with 1GB of RAM) and internal storage (the smaller tablets had only 16GB).

Furthermore, the 7-inch model was offered only with the standard 1280 x 800 resolution and only the 8-inch version took advantage of FHD.

The June models also ran Android 4.4 KitKat, so that’s why we were saying it’s disappointing Dell is preparing a new tablet with the same operating system onboard, when Android 5.1 is being prepped for a February release.

We don’t have any pricing specifications to share with you, but we expect the Dell Venue 10 to be relatively affordable. The 8-incher sold for $199 / €146.
