Earlier this week, present at Intel’s Developer Forum, Dell unveiled an interesting new tablet. It’s called Venue 8 7000 Series and is one of the thinnest tablets in the world (6 mm / 0.24 inches). Another interesting aspect about it is that it takes advantage of Intel’s RealSense 3D camera.
But that’s not all the company is planning to roll out in the coming weeks, tablet-wise. It appears that the mirage of the 2-in-1 devices has hit Dell pretty hard, so the company won’t be offering only Windows-based products boasting this frame factor.
Dell is planning to extend its Venue lineup
Keeping that in mind, the company is gearing up to launch a new 10-inch Android tablet that can be used in concert with a keyboard dock, as reported by Tab Tech. They briefly presented the unnamed tablet at the conference and said that the tab would be made available before the end of the year.
The new 10-incher appears to be quite light, thin and portable, but we have to wonder if its frame will be comparable with the other Android tablet Dell unveiled at the event.
Specs are a mystery at this point
Sadly, the company didn’t say much about the specifications of the tab, but chances are we’re going to see the device take advantage of Intel’s new low-power Core M chips.
Since the Venue 8 7000 Series is equipped with an OLED display, we could hypothesize that the larger model takes advantage of the same screen, but the company hasn’t provided us with any indication on the matter, so we don't know if this is indeed the case.
The resolution is also unknown, but we judge it to be somewhere around 1920 x 1200 or 2560 x 1600 pixels.
From the images taken at the conference, you can see that the new Dell 2-in-1 has an extremely thin frame on the side. Also, when in table mode, the product looks quite similar to the Lenovo Yoga slate with Android.
Like the Yoga, the new Dell tablet features a thick, round area at the bottom, where the battery probably resides. It is also used to connect the slate part with the quite sleek keyboard.
A RealSense 3D camera should also be included on the back of the new 10-incher. When the tablet arrives on the market, it would probably debut with Android’s latest iteration, Android L, but we’re not given an exact time frame for when this is supposed to happen.
In related news, Dell has just updated its Venue line of Android tablets (with 7-inch and 8-inch screens) by adding Intel’s new Moorefield processor inside. However, the 10-incher is unlikely to take advantage of this platform.
