14 DAY TRIAL // Dell has updated its Secure Mobile Access (SMA) solution to help enterprises in better handling the risks associated with the bring-your-own-device (BYOD) trend. The company has enhanced its products to enable organizations to provide mobile employees with per-app VPN access to enterprise resources.
“The Secure Mobile Access solution and the Dell Enterprise Mobility Manager present evidence that Dell recognizes the challenges our customers face, and has responded with the right innovative, scalable solutions required to solve mobility and BYOD issues. We are not tackling a small piece of the problem,” said Patrick Sweeney, executive director of Network Security at Dell.
“With our comprehensive lifecycle approach connecting security across data, infrastructure and applications, we are providing the complete set of solutions required in the market,” Sweeney added.
The SMA solution enables IT administrators to restrict mobile apps from accessing corporate resources via VPN. They can configure the system so that only certain applications are granted VPN access. This is very important considering that many employees access sensitive corporate information from their personal mobile devices, which are often an easy target for hackers.
Administrators can authorize mobile apps that are needed for business operations based on a per-user, per-device policy. Organizations can ensure that traffic containing sensitive data cannot be intercepted by malicious actors.
SMA complements Enterprise Mobility Management, the solution designed to enable IT teams to securely manage containers and devices. Both SMA and Enterprise Mobility Management work with a number of VPN and mobile device management products.
SMA is a combination of Dell SonicWALL E-Class Secure Remote Access Appliance (SRA) and the Dell SonicWALL Mobile Connect 3.1 mobile application.
By using this product, enterprises no longer have to worry about unauthorized access to corporate resources. They can specify which app, from whose mobile device is granted VPN access. This enforces user compliance to personal device authorization policies.
The product will be generally available in the middle of 2014. Organizations interested in such a solution can check out the demos made these days by Dell at Interop in Las Vegas.
The Fulton county government has recently added disaster recovery capabilities to its networks with the aid of an earlier generation of Dell Secure Mobile Access, namely the Dell SonicWALL E-Class SRA EX7000.
“In Fulton County, we needed to embrace mobility to keep our thousands of public service professionals not only productive, but safe. They needed the ability to reach critical applications remotely from the field, but we had to maintain the highest level of security for those connections and access,” said Jay Terrell, Fulton County chief technology officer.
“If we hadn’t deployed the Dell SonicWALL EX7000 – particularly prior to a huge snowstorm – critical county departments would have been shut down. The solution provided lower TCO with greater ease of use and disaster preparedness,” Terrell added.
“Now, with more workers requesting access to our network from personal devices, we see the critical need to provide access to only trusted applications, and to ensure that we protect the county from legal risk.”
