Since it can't have the PC market, it can at least make up for it in other areas

Although not as much as Acer, Dell is trailing behind the likes of Lenovo and HP on the personal computing market. Fortunately, it has secured leadership in other areas, particularly that of PC monitors.

And by that I mean that, after the second quarter of the year came and went, the company ended up on the top spot in terms of PC monitor shipments. And not by that small a margin either.

In fact, Dell secured 14.9% of the worldwide shipments, and is followed by Samsung with 12.6% and HP with 11.9%. In that order, the companies shipped 5 million, 4.2 million, and 4 million displays, respectively.

Add to that LG's 3.3 million (9.9%) and Lenovo's 3 million (9.1%) and you have 33.5 million shipped displays in total.

All in all, while Dell may not have grown on-year much (just 0.9%), the others (barring LG who grew 16.6%) suffered declines of 24.1%, 0.2%, and 9%, respectively.
