Computer maker Dell has just made available its first Android-based tablet on the market in Australia, the Dell Streak, which is now available for purchase in the country via wireless carrier Optus.

Boasting a 5-inch touchscreen display that boasts a 800 x 480 pixel resolution, the new Tablet PC comes with a nice range of features, being capable to offer an enhanced experience when browsing the Internet or enjoying multimedia files is involved.

The slate can be purchased from Optus for $0 upfront on the wireless carrier's $59 Cap that sports 2GB of data, unlimited SMS & MMS and $500 worth of cap credit. Dell Streak costs $649 outright.

“Streak is best described as a 5" widescreen tablet. It combines the best features of smart phones and tablet PCs - the whole world in your hands,” Optus notes on its website.

- Compact and portable - Fits in your pocket or purse; - Make phone calls, tweet, text, check email, download music, take photos, navigate, organise; - Bigger display than phone with touch screen interface; - Browse the web, watch movies/videos, read e-books, play games; - Multi-tasking experience; - Responsive capacitive touch; - Gesturing/pinch and hepatic thump.

The Android-based tablet PC comes with 2GB of internal memory, to which one can add up to 15GB of external storage space via microSD memory cards.

Moreover, the slate sports both 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity options, as well as Bluetooth, not to mention GPS receiver for navigation and support for using Google maps.

The specifications list of the Android-based Tablet PC also includes a 5-megapixel photo snapper, along with a battery that can offer up to 9.8 hours of usage time, or 400 hours of standby time.

Dell's Android-powered Streak tablet measures 152.9 x 79.1 x 9.98 mm and weighs in at 220 grams.

Those who will purchase it should also benefit from full smartphone and tablet features, support for social networking sites like Facebook at Twitter, as well as fast access to the Android Market, where they will find a wide range of apps available for download.
