Dell is one of the companies that are still betting big on Windows 8, even though Microsoft’s new operating system has until now failed to excite.

Sam Burd, Dell's global vice-president of personal computing, told The Guardian, “had not done well so far” in the tablet market, revealing that his company sold only “hundreds of thousands” of devices running the new operating system.

"I think that's pretty exciting when we look at the ramp [in purchasing] that we expect from corporate customers,” he said.

Burd explained that Windows 8 still needs some time to excite and explained that the tablet market will soon record increased sales, especially in the enterprise sector.

“Maybe in a few years when we get to Windows 8 tablets being a third or 40% of tablet volume we can feel it's happening. Tablets are definitely an important piece of the computing business,” he added.
