After making official the Alienware M11x, M14x, and M17x gaming laptops, Dell seems interested in removing the slightly older M15x from its product lineup as the notebook is currently missing from the company's U.S. and Australian websites.

If this turns out indeed to be the case, the decision will be particularly strange as the 15.6-inch laptop stood right in between the 14-inch M14x and the 17-inch M17x.

The second-generation Alienware M15x was powered by an Intel Core i7-740QM CPU paired together with at least 4GB of DDR3 memory, and graphics was provided by an Nvidia GeForce GTX 460M dedicated GPU with 1GB of video buffer.

The 15.6-inch panel was able to support Full HD resolutions (1920x1080 pixels) and was covered from edge-to-edge by a glass screen.

Other features included an optical Blu-ray combo drive, 802.11n WiFi and Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity, DisplayPort and VGA video outputs as well as an eSATA port.

In comparison, the newly released M11x, M14x, and M17x gaming laptops come with Sandy Bridge processors and either a GeForce GT 540M, GT 555M, or GTX 460M graphics card.

In addition to these three new models, Dell also wants to release an 18-inch M18x notebook that will feature a 2.8GHz Core i7 Extreme processor and SLI or Crossfire graphics.

For those interested, the Alienware M15x can still be found in the Dell outlet and refurbished online stores.

At this time, Dell hasn't made any official announcement regarding the faith of the M15x, but the company could be working on a refreshed version of the notebook that would feature Sandy Bridge CPUs. (via NotebookCheck)
