Dell has recently released new BIOS updates for its Latitude E6420 and E6520 notebooks. Version A19 (for E6520) and A21 (for E6420) have the same changelog, and they aim at fixing the issue where the encrypted hard drives would take a long time to boot.

The problem with OROM keyboard Access not keeping the setting of one-time-enable is also on the list of mended issues.

The updates come with the “exe” extension that provides Windows users with a fast and easy way of updating by simply double-clicking the downloaded file and going through the instructions of the setup wizard.

For Non-Windows users, a DOS installation is required. To do so, one must first copy the file to a bootable USB stick. Next, restart the system and press F12 to select the booting order. “USB Storage device” should be your pick and Boot to DOS prompt.

To run the file, type its address (i.e. X:\E6420A21.exe or X:\E6520A19.exe, where “X” is the drive letter of the removable storage device) and press “Enter.”

The computer will auto restart and update BIOS while system startup screen is displayed. When it completes, another restart is performed automatically and the new BIOS is installed.

If you're using BitLocker, please disable it before updating. Also, make sure your notebook doesn't run out of energy while the BIOS flashing is ongoing, as this may lead to malfunctions.

Download the new updates for your Latitude E6420 and E6520 notebooks, install them, and stay “updated one minute ago.”
