Dell has just announced a new line of OptiPlex commercial desktop computer systems, designed to meet the requirements of today's business users. In addition, the Round Rock, Texas-based systems vendor has also introduced a Flexible Computing Solutions and service offering, designed to reduce costs throughout the desktop lifecycle.

“As the world’s leading supplier of desktops, Dell understands the importance of simplifying customers’ IT environments and saving them money in every step of the desktop lifecycle,” said Darrel Ward, director, Dell Product Group. “According to Gartner, a locked and well-managed system can be 42 percent less expensive to maintain than an unmanaged one. With today’s product announcement, we are introducing end-to-end solutions that are more manageable and secure, while also giving customers the flexibility to deploy solutions outside of traditional computing models.”

With the introduction of the company's new lineup of OptiPlex, Dell provides systems that feature innovations in areas such as management, security, stability and environmental responsibility, helping consumers simplify day-to-day operations, in addition to reducing operating expenses.

More specifically, the just launched systems that come as part of the Dell OptiPlex range of business desktop computers count four additions. These include the new flagship OptiPlex 960, which the company claims to achieve up to 43 percent less power consumption to reduce energy costs, over previous generation OptiPlex desktops. Also, the new OptiPlex 960 is said to bring the most environmentally responsible features of any commercial desktop available. The 960 model will be available in three chassis styles (mini-tower, desktop and small form factor), with a starting price tag of $864.

As regards specifications, the company's new flagship model is expected to sport a 3GHz Core 2 Duo processor, 1GB of memory, an 80GB hard drive and the integrated Intel GMA 4500.

The company's first thin client product comes in the form of the new OptiPlex FX160, which is set to start at $399. The mainstream OptiPlex 760 and 360 systems will become available with a starting price tag of $593 and $476, respectively.
