It would seem that it's "projector season" over at Dell, since the company keeps rolling out new models almost on a daily basis. We've seen their ultra-portable, pocket projector yesterday, and now it's time for a much more serious machine, designed most likely for the corporate environment, namely the 7609WU.

Quite obviously, the image quality-related features are the most important selling points of any projector, and this is exactly where we'll start our tour. Thus, the 7609WU delivers a 1920x1200 pixel (WUXGA) native resolution, as well as 2700:1 typical contrast ratio. Plus, it's been equipped with a 300 W lamp, which helps it achieve an overall brightness level of around 3850 ANSI Lumens, and it also incorporates DLP and BrilliantColor technologies, which enhance the quality and level of detail of the displayed images.

Moreover, the Picture-In-Picture (PIP) and Picture-by-Picture (PBP) capabilities enable simultaneous viewing of multiple programs and the 7609WU also comes with a host of intuitive features such as customizable start-up display, password and security cable protection, and dual 5W speakers, which enable users to add audio support to their presentations.

The projector also incorporates a fairly large number of connectivity options, including here an HDMI port and a DisplayPort interface (surprisingly, since they're rather rare). Additionally, the dual VGA connectors will allow for easy switching between presentation hosts, an RJ45 connection will offer network control via LAN, while the Component Video, Component via VGA and S-Video connectors will have users covered regardless of the outputs of the signal source. For good measure, the designers from Dell have also thrown in Audio-In/Out connectors and a USB port, for carrying out presentations even in the absence of a computer.

Given all of the features listed above, it's no wonder that Dell's 7609WU is quite an expensive device, selling for an estimate 5,000 US dollars, which is way above what "average" consumers might be willing to spend.

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there.
