Computer maker Dell is readying the launch of a new Android-based tablet PC, with a larger touchscreen display that the already available Dell Streak. The company already showed off the slate, but did not unveil specific info on what it would include.

Dell founder and CEO Michael Dell was the one to show the new slate to the audience at Oracle Open World in San Francisco, California, on Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010, during his keynote address.

The only thing that was unveiled on the new Android-based device was that it should sport a 7-inch screen, which would make it comparable with the Samsung Galaxy Tab.

As a recent article on Engadget notes, the specifications of this device are not known for the time being, but we can have a look at what the slate might be looking like when pushed to shelves via a photo that emerged on Reuters.

Moreover, the news site suggests that this device might land on shelves as the Looking Glass tablet PC that was rumored a few months ago to arrive in November.

If so, then we should expect for the device to include a seven-inch touchscreen display that boasts a 800 x 480 pixels resolution, as well as 4GB of RAM, which is quite a lot for such a device, one should agree.

Other specifications of the slate would include 4GB of flash memory, complemented by an SDHC memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space, along with a 1.3 megapixel camera.

Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G and other connectivity options are also there, along with built-in GPS receiver and a 2100mAh battery.

Provided that the rumor pans out, we should see a quite appealing Dell slate brought to the market in the near future.

Until more on this emerges, we should note that the Dell Streak was announced as being on its way to Best Buy next month. No info on when it would receive Froyo emerged.
