Following a series of leaked reports and teasers, the Round Rock, Texas-based Dell, one of the world's leading vendors of personal computer systems, has finally decided to officially debut its much-anticipated Adamo XPS ultra-thin laptop. Featuring a thickness of just 9.99mm, the new model adds to the company's growing Adamo family of high-end laptops, providing users with an alternative to Apple's successful MacBook Air. As expected, the Adamo XPS adopted Intel's CULV platform and integrated it into a high-class design.

“Our engineers and designers are breaking new ground and throwing away the old rules with the introduction of Adamo XPS,” Alex Gruzen, senior vice president of Dell consumer products, said. “We think the Adamo XPS will inspire an emotional connection with anyone who sees it.”

At the heart of Dell's new pride and joy there's an Intel Core 2 Duo processor that has been clocked at 1.4GHz and has been coupled with Intel's GS45 integrated graphics chipset. Additional features include the support for up to 4GB of DDR3 RAM, a 128GB thin-micro solid state drive and a range of connectivity options that includes 802.11 a/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, location awareness, DisplayPort, two USB 2.0 ports and a 20Whr Li-Ion battery that is good for about two hours and 36 minutes. There's also a 13.4-inch WLED HD (720p) display and a capacitive latching device that will enable users to open the latch with a single swipe.

Users will be given the chance to opt for a 40WHr battery, which will extend the laptop's runtime to five hours and 17 minutes, according to the company. In addition, the configuration options also include a choice for a DVD+/-RW drive, Blu-Ray drive or an external hard drive that can provide 250GB or 500GB of storage capacity, all for an added fee.

Said to become available in time for this year's holiday season, the laptop is rated at a starting price tag of US$1,799 and will ship with Microsoft's Windows 7 operating system.
