TD-SCDMA and GSM compatible

TENAA, the telecommunications equipment certification center in China, the equivalent of US FCC (Federal Communications Commission), has just confirmed a new Dell handset. Tagged as Dell Mini 3v the new mobile phone runs on both TD-SCDMA and GSM networks (including HSDPA).

A few photos of the device have also been posted, as well as a few technical specs. Besides the dual-mode network compatibility, the device is also listed as packing China's native WAPI wireless standard instead of Wi-Fi connectivity, CMMB digital TV tuner (China-exclusive). Other features that we could only guess from the pictures posted include: 5-megapixel camera with LED flash, as well as a secondary camera on the front.

There's also a stylus included, which suggest that the touch screen is indeed resistive and not capacitive. There's no info about any operating systems that might be running on the mobile phone, but we can guess that it's Android. The certification of the device seems to be valid until 5th January 2011, which means that we will probably know more about the device until the end of this year.

By the look of it, the handset seems to be another version of the Mini 3i, which is already selling in China. Anyway, the Dell Mini 3v seems to be an improved version, as its 3i predecessor lacks 3G connectivity, Wi-Fi, and it packs a lower 3-megapixel camera. Another thing that hints to Dell Mini 3v as running Android OS is the fact that Mini 3i is also powered by the same operating system.

No other information regarding its possible launching date or price has been disclosed yet, but we will probably get more updates in the near future. The smartphone might also arrive in Europe or/and US somewhere around the Christmas holidays.
