There are many rumors always running rampant on the IT industry but the most recent one in regards to the CPU and PC market seems to imply a fairly unlikely arrangement that may or may not be made between Dell and AMD.
Advanced Micro Devices seems to be going through a really rough period lately, what with all the management changes that came more or less out of the blue.
For those that are not yet aware, for whatever reason, AMD lost several executives over the past month and a half.
Not only did the CEO (chief executive officer) get sacked, but its chief operating officer and chief strategists also left the company.
Currently, the interim CEO is Thomas Seifert, the Sunnyvale, California-based company's chief financial officer.
Apparently, he does not want to become a permanent CEO, something that may or may not be owed to how the outfit only in 2009 and 2010 managed to start gaining profits after years of losses (since 2006).
Either way, AMD is definitely not in its best shape shape, maybe even on a slippery slope, and a more recent rumor seems to suggest things are even more dire than initially surmised.
As a recent
report has it, Advanced Micro Devices might have once again become a target for a takeover.
In other words, it may set itself up for acquisition, meaning that whoever buys it will gain ownership of all its desktop, notebook and server CPUs (central processing units).
“There is no management team there. There is some chatter that the company is up for sale. It is a far-fetched possibility," said Patrick Wang, an analyst at Wedbush Securities, reports Bloomberg news-agency.
Regardless of how far fetched, reports
seem to imply that Dell, of all companies, could end up buying the only company rivaling Intel on the CPU and chipset front.
Needless to say, Dell buying AMD would be odd, since the former never actually developed any technologies of its own, being more focused on distribution. As one would expect, neither company commented on the rumor.
