The mobile PCs are made for people who want security and manageability

In anticipation of IFA 2013 and the times afterwards, Dell has formally launched a new range of mobile PCs, among which a collection of ultrabooks is included, though that's not a perfectly accurate summation.

Which is to say, the “series” of ultrabooks is really just one ultrabook with a myriad of different hardware configuration options.

Then again, that is the case for most product “series” these days, so we aren't exactly about to ban an eye.

Called Latitude 7000, the Ultrabook has a 12-inch screen and a thickness of just 20 millimeters.

Take the weight of 1.3 kilos / 2.86 pounds into consideration and you already have a winning formula, design-wise.

Sure, the size could be a step or two higher, but this is, in the end, a product made for business users and anyone who wants manageability and security more than performance.

Considering the normal office tasks, high performance isn't really a requirement in the end.

Anyway, the 12-inch Latitude 7000 benefits from Intel vPro extensions and automated tools that plug into Microsoft System Center and Dell KACE.

It also boasts “best-in-class endpoint security solutions” like comprehensive encryption, advanced authentication and leading-edge malware protection.

What's more, the Ultrabook is compatible with existing Latitude E-family docks, and has WiFi wireless docking on top of that. It is the first time a Dell ultrabook can connect to a second screen without cables.

"These exciting new additions to the Latitude line provide our commercial customers what they've been asking for by bringing touch capability to the workspace at desirable price points," said Kirk Schell, vice president, commercial computing group at Dell.

"The new Latitude 7000 Series builds on the success of the award-winning XPS and Latitude 6430u to redefine the corporate laptop, complete with security, manageability, reliability and beautiful design."

Dell Latitude 7000 has a starting price of $1,049 / €1,049. From next month, touch-enabled models will be released as well.
