Virtualization is becoming increasingly important in today's server systems market, which is why we are seeing a number of hardware manufacturers and software developers announcing new products, specifically designed to meet the increasing demand for better and more powerful virtualization systems. Just recently, Round Rock, Texas-based Dell has announced the availability of several new products, management tools and infrastructure consulting services, all of them meant to offer customers an easier and more efficient way of adopting virtualization.

The newly announced solutions include the M905 and M805 servers, part of the company's PowerEdge full-height blade servers. Worth noting is that the new products have been designed taking advantage of Dell’s previous experience in virtualization, with its PowerEdge R805 and R905 systems. According to the official statement, the new M905 server delivers an improved performance by featuring a four-socket blade-based virtualization configuration. In addition, the company has also announced that the M905 is the first blade server capable of delivering support for 11 tiles and 66 Virtual Machines (VM) in VMmark testing.

“The question isn’t will businesses virtualize, but when, and who can provide the platforms and services to make the rollout a success,” said Rick Becker, vice president of Software and Solutions, Dell Product Group. “While our competitors thrive on complexity to push proprietary hardware, management and services lock-ins, Dell’s virtualization strategy is grounded in choice and defined by industry standards. By offering our customers the latest, industry-proven, technologies, services and reference architectures, we are helping simplify their IT operations without limiting their options for future growth.” Becker further explained.

The company has also stated that the new PowerEdge M805 and M905 servers are now available worldwide, for a starting price of US$1,699 and US$4,999 respectively. In addition to that, the announcement also referred to the updated R900 rack-mounted system, part of the same PowerEdge line, which would become available later this month.
