After having recently
announced that its newly launched Latitude 2100 has seen an impressive adoption from a considerable number of school districts, Round Rock, Texas-based Dell has stated today that it has expanded its K-12 portfolio with the introduction of a couple of new services and products. As part of the announcement, the company has partnered with Stoneware to enable a cloud-computing solution for the educational environments, serving both students and teachers. In addition, the PC vendor also introduced its new Mobile Computing Station, a solution specifically designed for the aforementioned 10-inch netbook.
“Education leaders understand the benefit of integrating technology into the learning process to create connected classrooms that enhance student achievement. The paradigm shift from having functionality reside in a computer to residing in a cloud is an evolutionary step in driving technology into our classrooms,” said Mark Horan, vice president and general manager for Dell's K-12 education department.
The two main contributions that have been added to Dell's K-12 technology portfolio include the new
Stoneware solution, which can create a private cloud on an organization's servers/network and offer secure and remote access to different applications, data and content that meets the requirements of teachers and students.
“Cloud-based curriculum will help revolutionize how students learn, allowing them to access customized curricula from any computer, anywhere. Coupled with the Latitude 2100 netbook, desktop-from-the-cloud is exactly the type of learning technology that will help modernize K-12 education,” declared Mark Horan, VP of strategic alliances at Stoneware.
In addition to the collaboration with Stoneware, Dell has also announced the availability of its new Mobile Computing Station, a specifically designed solution that can accommodate twenty-four 10-inch Latitude 2100 netbooks. Listed at a starting price tag of US$3899, this product is essentially a larger docking station with a number of built-in management features that are designed to support Dell's Latitude 2100 netbooks.
