Sales figures on Microsoft’s very own Windows 8 operating system remain scarce for the time being, but several analysts have already suggested that it’s going to take off in 2013.

HP India President of Printing and Personal Systems, Rajiv Srivastava, shares the same view and says that Windows 8 has the potential to become a successful operating system.

He expects the new Microsoft product to account for 25 to 30 percent of its computer sales in 2013, in which case Dell would be fairly satisfied. Analysts have previously forecasted that Windows 8 is going to play the key role in a significant recovery of the PC industry next year.

“Windows 8 is a relatively new platform... if 25-30 per cent of the sales came from Windows 8, we would be very happy,” he was quoted as saying by The Times of India.

Mine failed in two weeks time. I am typing this on my new Mac Mini, which is great -- flawless. Will keep my Win7 hp laptops as my Windows machine. When it finally gives up the ghost, I guess I look for a Lenovo, the quality producer of Windows machines. Hopefully Win8 will be history by then. Ubuntu is pretty good. Have not used ChromeOS yet, but the little Chromebox seems pretty cool, though not powerful enough for my needs, I can see this as great for surfing the Net, or a second or third machine -- could work.
