Encouraged by the positive feedback received from Dell Streak's users, Dell has decided to enter one of the most profitable emerging markets in the world, India, with two new Android smartphones – Dell XCD35 and XCD28.

Dell XCD28 is an entry-level smartphone which is powered by a Qualcomm MSM 7227 600 MHz processor and runs on the Android 2.1 (Eclair) platform.

It comes with a 2.8-inch TFT resistive touchscreen with 262K colors and 240x320 pixels resolution. The device includes 200 MB internal memory, 256 MB RAM, 256 MB ROM, as well as a microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 16GB).

In term of connectivity tools, Dell XCD28 packs HSDPA, 7.2 Mbps, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP support and GPS with A-GPS support. It also sports a 3.2-megapixel camera with autofocus and Stereo FM radio with RDS.

“For more than 25 years, Dell has played a critical role in transforming computing, enabling more affordable and more pervasive access to technology around the world. With today's launch, we extend the same pioneering edge to the smartphones market as starting with the XCD series, we look to offer technology solutions to a much larger audience”, said Mahesh Bhalla, General Manager, Consumer & SMB, Dell India.

“In the fast growing Indian mobile market, this will allow more and more Gen Y and mobile professionals to access a rich browsing and multimedia experience, backed with the assurance of an uncompromising, market-leading service support”, he added.

Dell XCD35 is a high-end smartphone which runs on the same Android 2.1 (Eclair) platform and comes with a larger 3.5-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen with 262K colors and 480 x 800 pixels resolution.

The device only includes 150 MB internal memory and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB). The rest of its specs are much the same as its entry-level sibling: 3.2-megapixel camera with autofocus, HSDPA, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP support and GPS with A-GPS support.

India is one of the fastest growing global markets for mobile devices as well as PCs,” said Farooq Butt, Vice President Worldwide Business Development & Strategy, Dell Inc.

“We chose to launch the new XCD range of smartphones first in India to offer a complete portfolio of Dell mobile Internet products in all screen sizes”, continued Farooq.

Targeting both high and lower-end users, the two smartphones will be available starting this week. Dell XCD28 can be purchased for Rs 10,999 (about $244) and XCD35 for Rs 16,990 (about $377).
