14 DAY TRIAL // Last month we told you that Acer was gearing up to unleash the world’s first Chromebooks taking advantage of Intel’s fifth-generation Broadwell platform.
One of them was said to be taking advantage of a more spacious 15.6-inch form-factor, while the other is expected to boast rugged properties.
These two models should make a debut in March, but when these models actually hit retail locations, they might not be the only ones of this kind.
New Dell Chromebook incoming
According to the infamous Asian publication DigiTimes, Dell is also gearing up to launch a notebook equipped with Intel Core U Broadwell.
Performance-wise, we should expect to see the same levels of power as with Core i3 Haswell, so in theory Dell’s new Chromebook should be superior to current models equipped with Celeron or Pentium architecture.
Acer is expected to roll out the 15.6-inch Chromebooks in HD and FHD options, so even if the report doesn’t mention anything about this aspect while Dell is concerned, we can speculate the company will adopt the same tactic.
Dell’s upcoming notebook is expected to be priced below the $300 / €249 margin. With these new models, Google continues to stand against Microsoft and its Windows 8.1 with Bing (Bingbooks if you will) offerings which sport similar specifications and prices.
The advent of Chromebooks taking advantage of Broadwell architecture has been prophesized long ago. Naturally, soon we’re going to see the cheap Windows-based alternatives taking advantage of the same architecture arrive in the wild too.
The new Chromebook models will be put on display at CES 2015
We’re still waiting on those super low-cost, affordable Chromebooks running Rockchip architecture, but we’re pretty sure they will appear in the wild soon enough.
Speaking of which, CES 2015 is about to start in Las Vegas next week and Dell and Acer might surprise us and put on display these new Chromebook models. We’ll keep an eye out for them.
