It seems like Dell chose AMD flagship processor - the Opteron for its future to come desktop workstations. More exactly, Dell settled for AMD's 4P Opteron and 2P AMD Opteron processor-based server which will be introduced in mass production at the end of this year.

"Dell's wider embrace of AMD processor-based offerings is a win for Dell, for the industry, and most importantly for Dell customers," said Marty Seyer, AMD senior vice president, Commercial Business, cited by Hardware Zone. "Dell's plan to expand the AMD footprint serves as a powerful statement on the strength of the AMD processor roadmap, as well as the demand that exists for AMD technology in Dell products. We look forward to working closely with Dell in bringing to their customers the benefits of AMD64 technology, the industry's open innovation platform."

Earlier this week, Dell faced several problems regarding its laptop batteries being consequently forced to recall no less than 4.1 million batteries. The reason for the recall was revealed in a press release in which it is said that the products could produce a fire hazard.

More precisely, the lithium-ion batteries are subject to potential overheating and as such, they pose a threat to consumers. Six related incidents were brought to Dell's attention "sparking" the recall decision. In this regard, Dell has issued a warning advising all notebook users involved affected by the issues to seize all usage of the recalled products.

"Consumers should stop using these recalled batteries immediately and contact Dell to receive a replacement battery. Consumers can continue to use the notebook computers safely by turning the system off, ejecting the battery, and using the AC adapter and power cord to power the system until the replacement battery is received," was the remedy proposed by Dell.

The company has so far sold 2.7 million battery packs in the US and 1.4 million abroad.
