Like Intel, Dell has just announced that it has begun the acquisition of a certain supplier of highly-virtualized storage solutions known as 3PAR, with the purpose being to integrate the eponymous clustered storage architecture into its own offering.

Basically, what 3PAR is well known for is its range of highly-virtualized, multi-tenant storage arrays that possess such advanced data management features as dynamic tiering and thin provisioning.

These solutions are built for both private and public cloud computing and in such a way as to drive power consumption and energy costs as low as possible.

Among the storage offerings that 3PAR has in its portfolio are PowerVault, EqualLogic and Dell/EMC solutions, all of which will enable Dell to offer customer choice and innovative systems.

"We have aligned our storage offerings over the last several years to provide our customers choice and value," said Brad Anderson, Dell senior vice president, Enterprise Product Group.

"3PAR brings the same values of performance, agility and ease-of-use to higher end, virtualized storage deployments as EqualLogic does for the entry-level and mid-range, rounding out our industry-leading solutions portfolio," he added.

“3PAR has consistently provided customers with the ability to do more with less,” said David Scott, President and CEO of 3PAR.

“With Dell we combine a powerful, virtualized storage platform with an outstanding distribution network to deliver this value to an even broader set of customers,” Mr. David Scott concludes.

“Dell plans to make 3PAR an integral part of its industry-leading storage portfolio, including PowerVault, EqualLogic and Dell/EMC. With 3PAR, Dell will offer innovative systems and customer choice at every storage tier, from direct-attach to highly-virtualized, clustered SANS,” states the official announcement.

The deal is worth $1.15 billion and will close by the end of the year, right after it has been subjected to customary closing conditions.
