While LCDs or other types of monitors are used for most video output tasks, projectors are often the devices of choice in office presentations, project briefings and other such situations. Such products, however, are often bulky and hard to carry around because they lead to the need of dragging along a significant number of cables and connectors. In seeking to allow presentations to be done more easily and in style, Dell has developed the Dell S300w Short Throw Wireless Projector, which not only can display 90-inch, 720p images from a distance of three feet, but can do so wirelessly and even in 3D.

The product page describes the new device as ideal for classrooms and conference rooms. Its wireless connectivity means it can be placed anywhere in the room and does not need to be adjacent to the laptop or desktop that the video feed originates from.

The gadget also has what Dell names a “plug and show USB” feature, which allows it to connect to a PC through a USB flash device. The projector also has the benefit of not adding shadows to the presentation screen and even a built-in close-captioning capability that allows people with hearing impairments to read the audio portion of select video and TV programs as on-screen text.

As far as actual product specs go, the image has a high 2,400:1 typical (full on/full off) contrast ratio, a WXGA resolution of 1,280x800 pixels with 16:10 aspect ratio and the DLP BrillianColor technology, which enhances picture reliability.

The gizmo even comes with the Crestron RoomView Express software that allows administrators and support staff to perform remote system diagnostics, monitor lamp life, log network activity, and automate tasks through event scheduling.

The product is already listed on Dell's official online store and has a price of $999.
