Dell surely wants to climb to the top on the notebook market, especially now, when consumers show increased interest in the mobile PC area. The company has already taken a step forward with the roll out of its low-cost, Eee PCs-like "E" and "E Slim" notebooks. Now, it focuses on getting the gap between its Inspiron and high-end XPS notebook families filled in.

"People seeking stunning design, brilliant colors, and innovative new technology find inspiration in Dell's new Studio brand," said Michael Tatelman, vice president of Dell consumer sales and marketing worldwide. "These products are built for today's digital nomad based on the millions of conversations we have every year on dell.com, Ideastorm and community forums. With Dell Studio we're answering the call for personalization, connectivity and simplicity."

The new Dell Studio notebook series will come in 15.4-inch and 17-inch form factors and will feature a wide range of color options to fulfill customers' choices. The colors Dell makes available for the new line include Jet Black, Tangerine Orange, Midnight Blue, Plum Purple, Spring Green, and Ruby Red, and Graphite Grey with Black, Red, Blue, or Pink accents.

"One year ago today we refreshed and revitalized our consumer portfolio with emphasis on product style, design and personalization. Flamingo Pink and Midnight Blue laptops have since became regular sights on college campuses and in coffee shops," said Alex Gruzen, senior vice president, Dell consumer product group. "The new Studio products demonstrate that Dell is continuing to focus on design and value, delivering attractive, feature-packed mobile digital lifestyle products."

Both Dell Studio 15 and Studio 17 notebooks feature a 2.5GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 processor, and Intel 965GM/PM chipset. Customers can choose between an integrated Intel X3100 graphics processor and a dedicated 256MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 mobile GPU on their notebook. The available display resolutions are either 1440x900 or 1920x1200 for both notebook models.

A standard 8X Slot-load CD/DVD Writer is available for each notebook, but customers can also choose the optional 6X Slot-load Blu-ray/CD/DVD combo drive as an upgrade. The notebooks also feature plenty of wireless options, including Dell 802.11b/g or 802.11n adapters along with Verizon Wireless or Sprint Mobile Broadband WWAN adapters. At least four USB 2.0 ports are present on both notebooks, along with a 54mm ExpressCard slot, Consumer IR, Firewire, and HDMI output.

Dell will make Studio 15 and Studio 17 available later this week both at Dell.com and at its retail partners. The price tags for the notebooks are set at $799 and $999 respectively.
