Dell Also Working on Mobile Phone?

Apparently, manufacturing mobile phones is the new trend as it seems that most widely known electronics companies fancy the idea of releasing a cell phone under their brand.

Apple was the first to pull this off with the iPhone and as it recorded quite a success, a while after, rumors regarding a Google phone, also known as Switch or Microsoft handset (Zune phone) started to come up.

None of those rumors have been confirmed so far, and it's very likely that the two companies have no intention of releasing a mobile phone. Dell probably doesn't have any intention of launching a mobile phone either, and yet, this doesn't stop the rumors from surfacing.

It all starts from the fact that
Dell have head-hunted Ron Garriques, Motorola's former Executive Vice President and President of the Company's Mobile device businesses, who has started work at Dell at a newly formed unit that focuses on consumer products.

Dell CEO Michael Dell said of the appointment: "We are asking Ron to create a new global consumer organization that will set new standards for innovative product design, leadership in providing the best customer experience, and flexibility in how we build and distribute products and services to meet the evolving needs of our customers around the world."

And while that doesn't really say much, it was definitely enough for quite a few people to assume that Dell is considering taking up manufacturing mobile phones. Not that anyone would mind seeing Dell, Google, Microsoft or other such phones, because a wide variety of handsets to choose from, provided by companies specialized in different fields, is definitely a good thing.

Until we get to see an extremely blurry spy shot (or photoshop work) of a Dell phone, we can't really assume that the company will have anything to do with the mobile phone industry. In the meantime, we're still left waiting for the Google phone, Zune phone, and even the iPhone for that matter, until its release this summer.
