Following the introduction of its Lynnfield-based, new Studio XPS desktop PCs, Dell has also announced the expansion of its line of Inspiron Z laptops, bringing forward two ultra-slim models, the 14z and 15z. As with the aforementioned desktops, Dell's new Latitude Z-series models have been designed to take advantage of Intel's latest processors, in this case, the new Core 2 Solo ultra-low voltage processors, consequently enabling a thinner design for the laptop's chassis. With the launch of the new models, Dell is expanding its line of ultra-portable, thin laptops, providing users with new options, in addition to the initial 11z model it announced a while back.

“People who want mobility, value, great performance and easy Internet access have made Inspiron our most popular consumer brand,” Glen Robson, general manager, Dell consumer laptops, said. “These new, thin, lighter-weight systems offer all-day performance with the latest Intel power-saving processors.”

The new Dell laptops are designed to provide users with a couple of new choices for an ultraportable, thin computer system, with options for 14-inch and 15.6-inch displays. The new systems can offer them a choice for an Intel Pentium Core 2 Solo, Core 2 and Core 2 duo ultra-low voltage processors, combined with up to 8GB of DDR3 1066MHz memory and 500GB, 7200RPM hard drives. Boasting a larger design, the laptops can accommodate a DVD optical drive and a choice for four-cell or six-cell batteries.

With an acclaimed eight-hour battery life, through the higher capacity battery pack, the new Dell Latitude Z-series laptops are now available in both black and cherry red options. As far as pricing goes, the systems are rated at a starting price point of US$599 and are available in retail stores and on Dell's own website.
