You'd better have a lot of cash ready if you want it

The Dell Alienware line of gaming notebooks is well known around the world for having both prowess and aesthetics, and it looks like the big one in the series has been set up for order.

Gamers may or may not be aware of the fact that, last month, Dell officially introduced the Alienware M14x, M11x R3 and M18x notebooks.

Of these three, only the M11x R3 was a revision of a previously existing machine, with the other two as completely new configurations.

As expected, they utilize the second generation of Intel Sandy Bridge Core central processing units, with even an overclockable, Core i7 Extreme chip available as an option.

Now, it seems that Dell is finally accepting online orders for the Alienware M18x, the base configuration featuring a 2 GHz Core i7 processor.

Speaking of initial configurations, the laptop has a starting price of $1,999, which already places it in the realm that only those with no lack in finances can reach.

As such, it stands to reason that, if the machine is already expensive, enthusiasts will be all the more willing to pay extra for top-notch capabilities.

Granted, should all of the top-end options be chosen, the price will be propelled sky high, but there is no question that the laptop will outperform pretty much everything except similarly overpowered notebooks or desktops.

That said, a 4 GHz Core i7 CPU can be chosen, along with up to 32 GB of RAM, two 256 GB SSDs and a pair of AMD Radeon HD 6970M graphics cards in CrossFireX (each has 2 GB VRAM).

Should such a monster be built, it will drain one's bank account of a hefty $6000, more or less.

The downside to all this (not counting this monstrous price tag) is that the Alienware M18x isn't really shipping yet, even though orders can be set. The preliminary ship day is May 24, so banks can rest easy for a while longer still.
