Dell Aero has just been officially introduced by Dell, who informs us that the Android smartphone is available through AT&T carrier for less than $100. Even though the device shows as “Coming soon”, we're certain that the US-based network operator will make it available starting this week.

Dell Aero is mid-budget Android-based smartphone that comes with a 3.5-inch capacitive touch screen (360 x 640 pixels resolution, accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate, multi-touch input method, proximity sensor for auto turn-off, and handwriting recognition.

“The Dell Aero is built with a focus on style and performance to help people find new ways to connect with friends and express themselves socially supported by the nation's fastest mobile broadband network,” Ron Garriques, president, Dell Communication Solutions.

The smartphone packs popular features such as, Quick Office, Facebook with integrated calendar and contacts, Twitter and additional applications by Google, including YouTube and Android Market.

Other key features of Dell Aero include: HSDPA 3.6 Mbps, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g connectivity, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP support, microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32 GB, 2 GB memory card included), GPS with A-GPS support, 5.0-megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash and geo-tagging.

The device is powered by a Marvell PXA310 624 MHz processor and runs Android 1.5 OS (Cupcake).

The latter is upgradable, but Dell isn't not in a hurry to offer its users upgrades on any of its recently launched Android smartphone (see Dell Streak that comes with Android 1.6 OS).

At the moment Dell Aero can be bought from the manufacturer's website for $299.99 without activation or $99.99 with new AT&T two-year contract.

The smartphone will probably pop-up as available on AT&T's website pretty soon.

Further, preliminary ship date for Dell Aero is August 26th, which is probably the main reason that it's not yet available in the carrier's stores.
