Dell unveiled today four new Vostro models – for both its notebook and desktop computer system lineups – designed specifically for the small business market segment and users who need a reliable portable computer system but operate on limited budgets. The new systems will be available through various authorized channel partners as well as from Dell's own website.
"Within the world’s emerging economies millions of new businesses are demanding just the technology they need, at the prices they can afford, from a vendor they can trust. Today we answer that need by introducing new products that join our existing Vostro product line," said Steve Felice, president, Dell Asia-Pacific/Japan. "Together with our partners, Dell will play an important role in bringing more technology to more people than ever before – whether in business or in the public sector. Vostro is a key building block to unleashing the potential of the Connected Era."
The Round Rock Texas-based system vendor also specified that other Vostro products would be introduced in the upcoming months, in addition to the recently announced notebooks and desktop systems. The laptops include the new Vostro A860 and Vostro A840 models, which will come in a 15.6-inch and a 14.1-inch form factor, respectively.
The 15.6-inch Vostro A860 has been designed to accommodate a number of processors ranging from Intel's Celeron to Core 2 Duo. As far as the operating system goes, users will have a choice between a Linux-based Ubuntu OS and Microsoft's Windows Vista. Other options include support for built-in Ethernet, modem and wireless connectivity, as well as optional Bluetooth capabilities.
The smaller 14.1-inch A840 offers an anti-glare WXGA widescreen LCD and can provide users with pretty much the same features as the A860 but in a more compact form factor with an affordable price offering.
As with the desktops, the new Dell Vostro A180 system can provide a choice between an Intel Celeron and a Pentium CPU as well as between an Ubuntu and a Windows Vista OS. However, the A100 model has been designed to only accommodate one of Intel's Atom processors and will be shipped with a Linux-based Ubuntu operating system.
