Back in mid-August, Round Rock, Texas-based Dell announced the introduction of its new Inspiron ultraportable computer system, the previously rumored
Inspiron 11z, providing users with a CULV-enabled laptop that started at a bargain price tag of just US$399. The laptop was designed to provide an alternative for netbook enthusiasts that wanted a bit more performance out of their system. However, the configuration options on the ultraportable machine were pretty limited, as Dell wanted to make the Inspiron 11z
available as part of its FastTrack program, which is claimed to deliver a system within 24 hours of the order being placed. That isn't the case any longer, as the company recently announced in one of its blog pages.
According to a recent post on Dell's community blog pages, the Inspiron 11z just got a few more options that will enable users to configure the system to meet their performance demands. The system is now available with more processor, memory and hard drive options, as well as new color choices, such as Alpine White, Ice Blue, Jade Green, New Cherry Red, Passion Purple, and Promise Pink (which will bring a US$5 contribution to the Susan G. Komen foundation).
An interesting configuration choice is the dual-core CULV Pentium SU4100 processor, which should deliver some performance increase over the base configuration. A new system could also be configured with 4GB of RAM and a 320GB hard drive, while a 56WHr 6-cell battery pack will be ready to provide users with approximately 6 hours of battery life, according to Dell.
As we mentioned in one of out previous articles, the Inspiron 11z is basically a mix of a CULV laptop and a netbook system, as it provides the portability of a netbook, but the performance of a CULV-powered laptop.
