The Dell Ultrasharp 2408WFP 24-inch LCD monitor has finally reached availability on Dell's online store. The monitor is a 24-inch copycat of the older 2407WFP model that boasts an amazing resolution of 1920x1200
pixels at an effective viewing angle of 178 degrees.
The monitor is capable of delivering a contrast ratio of 1,300:1400 cd/m2 brightness, 6-ms response, and 102% color gamut. The connectivity palette is rather rich and includes HDMI, 2x DVI, DisplayPort, VGA, Composite, S-Video, Component, a single USB upstream, and 2x USB downstream. The monitor also includes a 9-in-1 card reader to accept the vast majority of memory-card formats.
The multitude of interconnects is an important aspect of the monitor, as it can be successfully used inside hardware testing labs for connecting multiple workstations to the same monitor. Hardware testers can connect two computers via the dual-DVI link and another one via the HDMI interface. A DisplayPort enabled video card can use the DisplayPort connector, and, last but not least, another signal source could be added via the good-old VGA port.
Dell has stuffed the monitor with a lot of interesting features, such as its Power Save Mode. This special state is achieved when the computer is not in use. It is available only in conjunction with a Vesa DPMS compliant graphics card. When input from keyboard, mouse or other input devices is detected, the monitor automatically resumes.
The 24-inch monitor from Dell is especially useful for those who would like to enjoy high-definition content on a display that does not need its own stand. Moreover, the 24-inch solution is superior to a 22- or even 27-inch model, since the 24-inch model has the smallest pixel pitch of all. At the same time, it is a more affordable alternative to the 30-inch DisplayPort-enabled 3008WFP model that sells for about $2000. The Ultrasharp 2408WFP comes with a 3 year warranty and can be purchased for $748.
