YM users will be able to save links directly from their desktop client

The Delicious development team has been working lately on some interesting new features they often taunt users with on their blog. Recently, they've revealed to the world that they have been working alongside the Yahoo team to provide a simple way for Yahoo Messenger users to save links exchanged in the IM window to their Delicious account without having to sign in on the main web page.

The process is very simple. Whenever User A sends a web link over the IM client to User B, if user A or B hovers their mouse over the link, a small transparent Delicious icon will appear next to it. By clicking that icon, a window will appear in which the user can enter all the needed details, so the link can be added to their Delicious bookmarks account.

These details include: the URL (automatically filled in), website title, some other notes, tags, send options and a checkbox to mark the link as private. Very handy indeed if you are one of those Yahoo Messenger and Delicious hardcore users.

For now, this feature is available for Australian users only, Delicious not disclosing any future official release date. The development team was quoted as saying, “Once we gather some data, have a few cups of coffee, [...] and ensure we have enough machines to handle the traffic, we’ll enable the feature for other English versions of Yahoo! Messenger.”

The post was greeted with rave reactions by users impressed with its functionality, users requesting integrations for other IM chat clients, and not only Yahoo Messenger. Other soon-to-be-released features include a Google Chrome extension (still in beta) and language localization for the main website. Recently released Delicious features include changes to the main website to accommodate more filtering options, registration with a Yahoo ID, Yahoo Messenger status updates parsed automatically from Delicious activity and account hotlists.
