Science fiction oriented television channel Syfy and video game developer Trion Worlds have announced that production of the series pilot for Defiance has started in Toronto, Ontario, while development on the virtual side of the project continues.

Defiance stars: Grant Bowler as Nolan, Julie Benz as Amanda Rosewater, Stephanie Leonidas playing Irisa, Tony Curran playing Datak Tarr, Jaime Murray as Stahma Tarr, Graham Greene playing Rafe McCawley, Mia Kirshner as Kenya and Fionnula Flanagan as Nicky.

The production side of Defiance features talent taken from Farscape, Caprica, Battelstar Galactica and Legion and Priest.

Defiance features a version of Earth from the far future, inhabited by both humans and by aliens who survived a destructive war.

The television series and the MMO created by Trion Worlds will be launched at the same time and will have storylines that intertwine, with players able to influence the narrative of the show while it will introduces the core quests for the MMO.
