Warcraft III was a truly great game, which brought fantasy strategy to new heights and further developed the big Warcraft universe. Its unique factions and conflicts gave gamers great stories to play through. But after the singleplayer was completed, the multiplayer aspect, although very entertaining because of BattleNet, Blizzard's own online service, felt like it needed something more. And it got that extra something when a couple of guys decided to create their own unique twist of the game characters and items. So they created Defense of The Ancients, or DoTA, as it was later named.

The gameplay is quite simple. Each player must destroy the enemy's Ancient, which is a heavily guarded structure. Players control a hero unit, most often a character from the original game, with unique powers and abilities, which can be upgraded as the players – who can be helped by team mates or AI controlled units, called "creeps" – earn more gold by destroying the enemy forces. The game reached a high level of popularity, the most successful being the DoTA Allstars version.

Now, Riot Games, a company that has recruited the people behind this very popular mod, has just announced that it will be developing a new title, called League of Legends (LoL), where players will take the role of a Summoner, which can call upon one of the great number of Champions, which are similar to the heroes in DoTA. The gamers will then be placed in an arena type battle against their opponents. The Summoner will have his own unique customizable avatar, which will gain experience and abilities as the matches are won and opponents defeated.

Basically, it will be similar to DoTA but with more customization options, as many other items are introduced for the Summoner and Champions. Also, quite a few interesting features have been added, including a system called LeaverBuster, which prevents people from logging off from the game. Also, the beta stage of the game will be announced shortly and you can still enter it by visiting the official site.
