The overflow service is designed to protect organizations in case primary defenses fail

Defense.Net has launched DDOS SWAT, a distributed denial-of-service attack mitigation service that acts as an extra layer of protection against what’s known as the “Concentration Risk.” Most organizations have some sort of DDOS protection solution from one of two primary providers. However, in case of a simultaneous attack, the resources of these providers might be overwhelmed and they could go down, taking their customers with them. This is what’s called the “Concentration Risk.”

This is where DDOS SWAT steps in. The overflow service is designed to protect businesses and critical infrastructure in case the primary defense is thwarted.

“As an overflow service, Defense.Net DDoS SWAT has to do a lot more than match the capabilities and capacities of the primary provider. We’re only asked to step in when the primary provider is not succeeding. By definition, we’re stepping into a bad situation,” said Chris Risley, CEO of Defense.Net.

“That’s why we’re provisioning 10 times the bandwidth per customer of the leading primary providers. We’ve built highly redundant and scalable data center infrastructures and we’ve staffed the organization with some of the most experienced DDoS fighters in the industry,” Risley added.

“With new technology developed by Barrett Lyon, who created of the DDoS mitigation industry more than 10 years ago, Defense.Net DDoS SWAT backs up an organization’s primary DDoS defense to ensure that these large scale attacks no longer disrupt critical infrastructure.”

DDOS SWAT is based on four new technologies developed by Barrett Lyon, CTO of Defense.Net and a pioneer of the DDOS attack mitigation industry.

These technologies include Defense.Net Traffic Spectrum, which breaks multi-layer attacks into their components for a more thorough mitigation; Defense.Net IP Reflection, which delivers clean traffic back to the attacked organization; Defense.Net SYN Assure, specially designed to mitigate SYN Flood attacks; and Defense.Net AttackView, an interactive portal that provides real-time attack information.

In addition to the DDOS SWAT technology, the service also includes a “Zero Day Team” of DDOS mitigation experts and network operators.
