14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft has officially kicked off its "Games with Gold" promotion and has confirmed that the first free game offered to Xbox Live Gold members is Defense Grid: The Awakening.
The title can be downloaded for free via the Xbox Live Marketplace.
In an effort to counter Sony's PlayStation Plus promotion, Microsoft revealed at E3 2013 that it was going to deliver free games for all Xbox Live Gold users worldwide until the end of the year.
After giving away Fable 3 last month in honor of E3 2013, the company has now officially kicked off the "Games with Gold" offer.
The first title that will be offered for free to all Xbox Live Gold users is Defense Grid: The Awakening, which is normally 800 MS Points.
Between July 1 and July 15, all Gold users can download the game for free and play it forever, no matter if their Gold subscription expires, according to Microsoft's Larry Hryb.
More games will be offered during this promotion until the end of the year, including Halo 3 or Assassin's Creed 2.
