Def Jam Vendetta is a videogame developed by Aki USA Inc. and published by Electronic Arts. It was created for the PlayStation 2 gaming console from Sony and for the GameCube, and launched in April 2003. The game is classed as an action title played from a third person perspective, and features a lot of wrestling matches.
Def Jam Vendetta, which is part of the Def Jam franchise, made a name in the gaming industry because it managed to mix wrestling mechanics with interesting characters. The title was not set to be a simulation of wrestling matches, focusing on the arcade element, outrageous moves, and appealing graphical elements.
The fighters featured in the game are very interesting, with all the artists who worked for the Def Jam Recordings label making an appearance. While playing, you can fight with: DMX, Ludacris, Method Man, N.O.R.E., Redman, Scarface, WC, Ghostface Killah and others. There are some 40 playable characters in the game, and they can perform around 1,500 moves. The main idea is to acquire the money and the power needed to get respect in the underground wrestling business. The game has a cinematic story mode and an arcade fighting mode.
Def Jam Vendetta got pretty favorable reviews from the gaming press but until now the franchise has received no new entries.
GAMEPLAY HINTS
Grappling
Grapple moves to the head, body, arms or legs are accounted for when going for submission. You will see that the bar depending on which of the four you attack will decrease with every grapple attack.
Keep opponent's momentum down
When wrestling an opponent, you may sometimes pull off a move with an accompanying pin (for example, the Illicit Package, etc.). If you pull off one of these moves for damage alone, and definitely know that the opponent will kick out, make sure to release the pin yourself (R1) before they can kick out. Kick-outs, as well as rope breaks, will give the victim a decent-sized momentum boost. However, if the attacker chooses to willfully release the hold, it is recognized as an act of mercy and thus no momentum boost is given to the victim.
