Last week, the news that a deer with an arrow stuck in its head was spotted running around New Jersey made headlines. Recent information on the topic says that the deer was caught by the folks with the local Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) this past Saturday, and that the arrow was removed from its muzzle.

NBC reports that the deer was in surprisingly good shape, and that it took a while for its rescuers to tranquilize it and pull the arrow from its snout.

Vets say the buck did not suffer any significant injuries, seeing how the arrow simply pierced through its nasal cavity and did not hit any arteries or major organs.

Once the arrow was removed and the wound was treated with antibiotics, the animal was allowed to return to the forest.

“He eventually got up on wobbly legs. He headed back to the woods,” said Susan Darrah, the woman who sounded the alarm after seeing the deer wandering through her yard.

Vets say that, all things considered, the deer will make a full recovery.
