It has a fan that won't start spinning unless the PSU goes above 30% load

On the PC market, it is a sad fact that the stronger a processor or power supply is, the higher the amount of cooling power needed, which usually translates into higher and, thus, noisier fan speeds. Deepcool did something about that when it made the new Quanta DQ1250 PSU with 1250W output.

The power output alone is enough to secure the new product a spot in the figurative hall of fame of the power supply market.

But we'll get to that later. For now, we'll explain what we meant by “something about” the tendency of high-end hardware with moving parts to make more noise the higher the system load gets.

Sure, there are special fan bearings that can alleviate that issue, and noise-dampening materials that can be applied to the inside of a case.

Still, there's nothing quite like eliminating the noise source at all, and that's exactly what Deepcool did here. Well, for as long as the load on the PSU is of below 30% anyway.

This is owed to a separate circuit design which prevents the fan from spinning unless load goes about that 30%, or the ambient temperature goes above 25 degrees Celsius.

The intelligent fan technology is complemented by the fan delay cool technology, which keeps the spinner working for 15-30 seconds after system shutdown, to ensure everything cools off completely.

This contributes to a longer lifespan for the whole thing, something quite important. After all, a power supply with a wattage of 1250W should be able to last for years, if not decades.

That said, the Deepcool Quanta DQ1250 PSU has two 12V rails (45A and 65A each output at peak consumption) and a flat ribbon, semi-modular cable design.

Which means that while the motherboard and two ATX 12V CPU cables are fixed onto the PSU, the others are modular and packed separately inside the box.

You get eight PCI Express connectors (6+2 pin), which means it's possible to set up computers with four add-in graphics cards, if you have a big enough motherboard.

Also, the box includes 16 SATA connectors, 10 peripheral connectors (Big 4Pin), and 3 pieces of extensional connectors (2 for PCI Express and 1 for small 4Pin).

Finally, the DQ1250 has CE, FCC, CCC, CB, EAC, and TUV certification, plus over voltage protection (OVP), short circuit protection (SCP), and over power protection (OPP). Finally, the power efficiency is high enough that it has earned the Deepcool Quanta DQ1250 80 Plus Platinum rating. Sadly, the (no doubt humongous) price has not been found yet.
