An updated version of the Deep Zoom Composer is now available for download from Microsoft. The Redmond company revealed that the refresh was designed to tailor the Deep Zoom Composer to DeepZoomPix. Deep Zoom Composer is a tool meant to allow digital images to be transformed for use with the Deep Zoom feature introduced in Silverlight 2. Microsoft explained that in terms of the graphical user interface and the workflow, the Deep Zoom Composer had remained unchanged, with the functionality having suffered no changes. However, there were indeed changes across the utility, set up to bridge Deep Zoom Composer with DeepZoomPix.

“Our primary motivation for moving to DeepZoomPix was to address the large amount of feedback many of you provided us about PhotoZoom. We hope you all find DeepZoomPix to be more reliable and more fun to use,” revealed Janete Perez and Kirupa Chinnathambi from the DZC team. “Do note that DeepZoomPix is just a technology demo. It is something that we are only planning on keeping until the end of the year (Dec 31st), and after that, we are not sure what will happen to the service. Please do not use this location as a permanent storage location for your photos.”

DeepZoomPix is a preview debuted by Microsoft earlier this week in order to demonstrate the use of various examples of its technology including: Jellyfish Deep Zoom, Windows Azure, Silverlight and Expression. The Redmond company stressed the fact that DeepZoomPix would only live until the end of 2009, as it was meant to be nothing more than a technology preview set up to offer developers an example of what Silverlight, Azure Cloud OS and Deep Zoom could do together.

“As many of you know, not too long ago, we added the ability for you to be able to publish your photos online to PhotoZoom. Based on a lot of requests and feedback many of you have provided about PhotoZoom and the integration with Deep Zoom Composer, we closely followed the evolution of PhotoZoom into DeepZoomPix and were excited to help make Deep Zoom Composer work better with the new service,” Janete Perez and Kirupa Chinnathambi added. “The biggest change is that Deep Zoom Composer will only allow you to upload to DeepZoomPix.”
