Linux users will have to wait for now

Metro: Last Light Redux is a remake of the original Metro: Last Light that was revamped and enhanced by the 4A Games studio. It's already out for the Steam for Linux platform, but it looks like it's not getting on GOG.com anytime soon.

Users of the GOG.com platform know that all of their games are shipped without any DRM. This is one of the features that sets GOG.com apart and many companies have agreed to remove the protection from their games to get on GOG. The problem is that other companies will hear none of it, so GOG.com won't have their titles for sale. In the end, both the original publisher and gamers are the ones who stand to lose.

One of the forum admins for GOG.com responded to a question from a user asking about Metro: Last Light Redux on GOG.com and the response was not a pleasant one: "Unfortunately we weren't able to acquire the DRM-free builds for Linux and MacOSX, but we will definitely add them if we ever get them. I apologise for the inconvenience."

For some weird reason, the publisher of Metro: Last Light Redux, which is now Deep Silver, won't provide the same builds for the Linux and Mac OS platforms. It remains to be seen if the reaction of the Linux community makes them change their mind.

Update: We have been contacted by Tomek Nalewajk from GOG.com who made a statement in order to shed some light:

"Our customer support representative's statement that 'unfortunately we weren't able to acquire the DRM-free builds for Linux' was admittedly vague and seems to have led to a misunderstanding. According to your article, the reason we haven't released a Linux version of Metro: Last Light is that Deep Silver have not delivered the appropriate builds - in this case that responsibility was on us. "

"We encountered a number of technical issues while preparing our DRM-free Linux and Mac OS X versions and made the call to hold back the releases until we can be confident in the quality of our product. While we are trying to fix the problems, we cannot make any promises if and when the DRM-free versions will be ready. "
