Deep Silver CEO Dr. Klemens Kundratitz has highlighted the company's policy concerning the PC platform and the piracy problem, saying that it will always focus on the PC while ignoring those who choose to pirate one of its games.

Deep Silver was a minor games publisher a few years ago but, thanks to big franchises like Dead Island and newly acquired ones like Metro or Saints Row, it's now established itself as a big company, especially in Europe.

According to the company's CEO, Dr. Klemens Kundratitz, the company won't forget its origins and will continue to focus on the PC platform with all its future games.

"We have always been publishing on PC, and PC is close to our hearts from the outset. It’s not an added thought at all," he told PA Report. "It’s hard to generalize because certain projects and certain developers see the PC as their primary platform, and then console comes after that."

Even so, the Deep Silver boss admitted that piracy was a reason why many other companies didn't focus on the PC.

"There is not the submission process with first parties, you are a lot more on your own to determine if the game is ready. Many publishers are not launching day and date because the PC is so difficult, but they fear the piracy issues, so they’d rather first focus on consoles," he explained.

While the issue affects Deep Silver games as well as others, the publisher won't use special DRM solutions or services like uPlay, as it just prefers to ignore piracy and focus on paying fans.

"Uplay is not the way we want to approach things, definitely. I think we just need to make sure that the games we publish are worth the money, and certainly there is always this piracy situation that any publisher has. No publisher can tackle, really. In a business plan, we typically ignore it. It’s not something that is new, it’s something that has been part of our business for decades. As a publisher you just live with it, yes?"

Deep Silver is currently focusing on quite a few unannounced projects, so expect to hear more about them soon enough.
