Faronics has updated the powerful Deep Freeze that protects and preserves baseline computer configurations. Version 4.10 brings new features, such as the ability to Deep Freeze status (Frozen or Thawed), as well as security enhancements and other improvements.

Deep Freeze Mac with ARD Integration provides a completely non-restrictive working environment, where there is no need to be concerned about system misconfiguration or malicious damage to a computer running Mac OS X. A simple restart eradicates all changes, and ensures that the standard system configuration is available at all times. IT administrators are thus able to deliver a clean and consistent workstation with each and every session, while system repairs that arise from software corruption and user changes will no longer be necessary.

“Deep Freeze is the only solution that effectively balances workstation security with user productivity,” says Faronics. “By mapping user and application data to a Thawed (unprotected) partition or drive, users are able to store their documents, pictures, music, etc., while still enjoying the total system consistency that Deep Freeze offers.”

Thanks to Faronics' Deep Freeze, IT admins can eliminate workstation damage and downtime. Once Deep Freeze is installed on a workstation, any changes made to the computer are never permanent, the makers say. Deep Freeze jumps in whenever problems like inevitable configuration drift or accidental system misconfiguration occur. The software also provides immunity to malicious software activity and incidental system degradation. Version 4.10 brings:

• Improved French, German, Japanese, and Spanish localizations.

• Security enhancements (resolved three reported security vulnerabilities).

• Ability to write Deep Freeze status (Frozen or Thawed) for each workstation in Apple Remote Desktop Computer Info Field 1-4. This is useful for viewing and sorting workstations in ARD by Deep Freeze status.

“Deep Freeze ensures computers are absolutely bulletproof, even when users have full access to system software and settings,” the company adds. “Users get to enjoy a pristine and unrestricted computing experience, while IT personnel are freed from tedious helpdesk requests, constant system maintenance, and continuous configuration drift.”
