The scientific community is yet to confirm this mythical creature's existence, but this does not mean that folks can't keep busy making a few bucks by selling Yeti memorabilia.

In fact, it was only yesterday that auction house Christie's started an online auction intended to find a new owner for a set of photos said to show Yeti footprints.

The four photos were taken decades ago by a British mountaineer, Eric Earle Shipton. This man claimed to have come across the Yeti footprints in 1951, while exploring Mount Everest.

The photos, which will be sold to the highest bidder, all measure 12 by 13 inches (approximately 30 by 33 centimeters). Two of them show the Yeti footprints together with human ones, Live Science informs.

The other two show the prints allegedly left in the snow by the Yeti alongside a booted foot and an ice ax. According to the same source, these photos were taken to prove just how big the footprints Eric Shipton found on Mount Everest were.

Despite the fact that there is no proof that these photos do in fact show Yeti footprints, auction house Christie's expects that they will sell for well over $8,000 (€6,063).

One can only assume that they will be bought by somebody who is truly passionate about the story of the Yeti. And who has quite a lot of money to spare, some might want to add.
